CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow Kit Field Test Review

I have only tested out another similar Crossbow setup one other time so this is not my normal Field Test Review. Like last time when I made my Bear X Desire XL Crossbow Field Test Video, in this Field Test Video I record my Chronograph velocity for the CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow at the same time as I shoot at the target so I did not have to make two separate video segments and basically did it all in one go. I did have a bit of a brain fart and forgot I needed to setup two separate cameras, one on the Chronograph and one on the Target, as I generally only need one camera at a time for my usually two segment Field Test Videos. So getting to the point, I did not have dedicated camera on the target while shooting and in hind sight it would have been better to have the camera on the Target rather than the Chronograph as my camera glasses generally record the Chronograph readings for me too. I do walk up to the Target at the end of the video so we do get to see exactly where all the bolts landed, so I can show you the final result at the end of the day.

In terns of velocity, CenterPoint claims a velocity of 191 fps. I was able to get consistently just over 180 fps so pretty close. My Chrono readings using the included 147 grain 6.5 inch aluminum bolts ranged from 180 to 182 fps so very consistent. This gave an overall Foot Pound energy of 10.61 foot pounds so velocity and foot pound energy were just a little bit under the claimed rating! This is enough for small pests for sure, it really comes down to accuracy at this point as you will want to get either a head or shoulder area shot for a humane kill, and I am not sure if this bow is up of the job? You will have to see how accurate it will be for you and make that decision for yourself..

In terms of accuracy I found the CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow to be fairly accuracy on the windage side (left and right), basically with all the bolts only being about 2 inches apart side to side. Where it did not perform as well was in elevation with the bolts ranging about 8 inches top to bottom. I am not sure why this was the case as the velocity is very consistent and generally less consistent velocities account for elevation changes. All the bolts hit the target using the included red dot with no pre adjustments but it did shoot just a bit to the right and maybe overall a bit low. This can easily be corrected using the red dot windage and elevation adjustments.

Interestingly the CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow has a higher claimed velocity over the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow I tested a while back, yet the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow actually shot a bit faster hitting 190+ fps, not a huge difference but an interesting observation. The CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow does come with a red dot but both have Picatinny Rails so Red Dots will fit on both Crossbows no problem. I am going to address the elephant in the room, if you compare both of these Crossbows they are virtually the same with the exception of the branding and distribution of them. So I would say get either one, the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow is actually less money as it does not come with an included Red Dot but at least right now it is out of stock so your only option may the the CenterPoint Hornet Recurve Compact Crossbow, both are a lot of fun and pack a lot more punch than your standard non regulated Air Rifle.

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns - Byrna Interview

Many Canadians ask about options for what they perhaps could use for home defense since we are not allowed to really use any kind of a weapon to defend ourselves. A product classified as “Less Lethal” may be of interest to people living in Canada. I interviewed Byrna, just such a company that offers alternatives to standard “Lethal Interventions” for self protection and Josh from Byrna was kind enough to go over their pistol and rifle offerings specifically built to shoot paintball type ammunition for the purpose of stopping bad guys.

I am hoping this is a product we will be able to add to our online Replica Airgun Stores, as they do tick the boxes for import into Canada such as shooting well under 500 fps, yet having the ability to cause serious injury so as to allow them to be considered a non regulated firearm.

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns - KWA Interview

This year at the KWA Booth I had the pleasure of running into John, and we went over a bunch of new items KWA had on display. John was even rocking a similar pair of Ray Ban Meta AI Glasses which made us look a little bit like twins…

In this KWA SHOT Show Interview John higgled the following products from KWA: The KWA ATP-Z and ATP-CT Optics Ready GBB AIrsoft Pistols which are convertible to SMG versions, along with a new prototype TAC-9 GBB Airsoft Rifle.

KWA AIrsoft products have always been one of favoriteAirsoft guns for their quality, looks and performance. They tend to offer a lot of Gas Blowback options which I really appreciate as a Replica AIrgun Collector.

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns - Barra Interview

I’m pretty sure I have never made an Interview for Barra before in any of my past SHOT Show Videos, so I was really happy when I visited their booth and discovered a bunch of really great new products to talk about with GEO. Like many other Airgun companies, Barra does incorporate rebranded products from other manufacturer popular Airguns, but they also have some unique products I have never seen before. They are either working really closely with dedicated manufacturing companies or making these items in house. Either way it’s great to see new and interesting products.

Some of the products Geo went over with me in this SHOT Show 2024 Barra Interview where: The Barra CO2 1866 Lever Action Rifle, some Rifled Pellet Barrel Kits for the Schofield Revolver and 1866 Rifle, the 1858 CO2 BB Revolver, the 357 Shell Loading CO2 Revolver, the 400 AEG Airsoft Rifle and two new nameless Airguns they are still working on and perfecting, a full Blowback Competition Style BB/Airsoft Pistol and a compact AEG Airsoft Rifle.

It was great talking with the team over at the Barra Booth and I look forward to testing out their new items as they become available.

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns - Umarex Interview

Kicking off my SHOT Show 2024 Interviews, I present my Umarex Interview with Mark Davis, you may remember Mark from past Umarex SHOT Show Interviews? This is a fairly long interview as Mark had a lot of product to show me including…

The new Marlin Lever Action BB Rifle, the Walther PDP CO2 BB Pistol, the BBX11 1911 Blowback CO2 BB Pistol, the MarkPoint Break Barrel .177 Caliber Pellet Pistol, the Trinity Hi-Cap 2011 Blowback Airsoft Pistol, the Gambler High Stakes Single Action Army CO2 Airsoft Revolver, the Glock 380 GBB Airsoft Pistol, the CQC Elite Force AEG Airsoft Rifle with i-Trace, and the Beretta PMX GBB Airsoft Rifle.

Yep, that’s a lot of products to go over in one Interview, and Mark did a great job! I am really looking forward to getting my hands on these new products from Umarex to review for everyone!

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns Teaser

I’m back from SHOT Show 2024 and I always like to start off my series of SHOT Show Interview videos with a Teaser Video that not only shows off a few new guns but also gives everyone a vibe of what it feels like to visit Las Vegas and SHOT Show. I can only show you so much because as you know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…

I did get the chance to interview several Airgun Companies that I will be putting together Interview Videos for, including Umarex, ASG, KWA, Barra, EKOL and Byrna. Unfortunately Sig Sauer is no longer attending SHOT Show and Crosman had significantly reduced the focus of their booth and really did not have much in the way of Replica Airguns to show.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2023-2024

As Christmas and New year approach, I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. According to my religious beliefs I concelebrate Christmas and I do so unapologetically. I know we live in a multicultural world with a variety of religions and beliefs. If you do not celebrate Christmas as many of us do here in Canada, then I wish you a wonderful holiday season nonetheless.

I look forward to 2024 and hope the new year brings prosperity to those deserving of it. May the righteous prevail over the unrighteous and good over evil.

For those following me over on Replica Airguns, I will be going to SHOT Show this year after a three year hiatus. I am really looking forward to seeing all the venders and new products they are showcasing at SHOT Show 2024.

For my GetFitOver40 audience I am taking things day by day and as I feel better and better I hope to be able to do more and more and perhaps maybe even do a show this year, but more on my own terms and my own timeline

Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle Table Top Review

Type: Pellet Rifle.
Manufacturer: Beeman
Model: Black Panther Dual Caliber.
Materials: Metal and Synthetic Plastic.
Weight: 7.2pounds (2.3kg).
Total Length: 44 inches (111.8cm).
Barrel: 16.75 inches (42.5cm).
Propulsion: Spring Piston.
Action: Single Action Single Shot.
Ammunition Type: .177 & .22 Caliber Pellets.
Ammunition Capacity: 1.
Max FPS: 495 Claimed.

Trigger Pull: The trigger on the Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle is single action only requiring you to break the barrel and compress the internal spring piston before you can shoot it. This will also engage the safety which you have to disengage for each shot manually as an added security measure. The actual trigger pull is I would say a medium pull with an easy first stage then a more firm second stage. I am pretty sure the Black Panther uses the Sportsman tigger setup which does have some adjustment for trigger pull as far as I am aware of. Once I get a chance to shoot the Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle I will be able to tell you more about how the trigger feels.

Accuracy: I have not performed any shooting tests with the Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle so far, I will be making a Video Review next in the next few weeks “weather permitting” as I want to get outdoors for this test to be able to shoot the Black Panther at longer ranges. I expect the Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle to perform well in the accuracy department using the 4x32 optical scope. In terms of power the spring does seem to take a bit of effort so I am hoping for a decent fps in both .177 caliber and .22 caliber!

Build Quality: The Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle is made in China but looks to be fairly well made. It is mostly metal including the front and rear sights with a synthetic plastic stock and feels good to hold resting the cushioned rubber butt-pad to your shoulder. The stock and trigger guard are a one piece design, that said the trigger guard is fairly thick so it should stand up to some abuse.

Realism: The Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle is not a copy of any real steel gun in production but does have that overall rifle shape to it so it looks like a gun but most people will be able to immediately see that it is a Pellet Rifle and that is exactly what it is since it is not trying to be a Replica Airgun or copy of any real steel rifle in production.

Pros:

  • All Weather durable ambidextrous synthetic stock.

  • All metal front and rear fiver optic sights.

  • Can shoot both .177 and .22 caliber pellets for multi purpose shooting.

  • Sportsman trigger (adjustable) with automatic safety system.

  • Comes with included 4x32 scope and mounts.

  • Very solid build at 9.92 pounds.

  • Nice cushioned rubber butt-plate looks good and adds to shooting comfort.

  • Has a scope-stop so your scope will stay nicely in place.

Cons:

  • Hard to tell if the claimed 495 fps is for .177 or .22 caliber lead or alloy pellets?

  • Hard to find this exact gun for info, not even on Beeman’s own website.

  • Made in China.

Comments:
The Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle is designed to be a more affordable Break Barrel Spring Piston Pellet Rifle with metal where it counts and a synthetic stock for durability and resiliency to weather conditions. You do have the option of shooting either .177 caliber pellets for a faster flatter trajectory or if you use the .22 caliber barrel, you benefit from perhaps a bit more downrange energy and less effect from windy conditions. You can also choose between shooting with the open fully adjustable metal sights or install the 4x32 scope for longer range shooting. You for sure get a versatile Spring Piston Air Rifle with the Beeman Black Panther Dual Caliber Break Barrel Pellet Rifle at the end of the day.

Cool Camera Tech - Hover X1 Camera Drone

When it comes to video and audio components that I use for making my videos, I am always looking for something that can improve the creativity or quality of my videos and audio in the videos so I keep an eye out for any new tech that I think is ingesting.

I tried using a drone in the past but found them too time consuming to setup and the drone noise always got into the sound of the video which can be a problem when you need live audio.

And then along comes the Hover Camera X1, it’s not really what you would expect exactly from a drone or camera. As a drone you would expect a remote along with GPS and the ability to go super high and far away and fly really fast. Well the Hover Camera X1 doesn’t do any of that.

As a camera you would expect something you can put on a tripod or at the end of a selfie stick and that is for the most part a more static object. Again the Hover Camera X1 is not really any of this.

What the Hover Camera X1 is is a new type of tech that allows you to have many of the benefits of what a camera man can do along with some of the cool tracking shots that a drone can do. And all in a device that fits easily in your pocket and weighs less than a smartphone.

In this Video I go into what the Hover Camera X1 can and can not do and where it really excels as compared to what a typical camera and typical drone is capable of. Yes there are some similarities but there are for sure something newish a conventional camera or drone can match.

Watch my video review with my take on the Hover Camera X1 with samples videos showing off the capabilities this very versatile video and photo tool can perform.

How Did Replica Airguns Come to Be?

I am personally very interested in what the origins of a company are, at least companies that I am interested in. Where did the idea for the company come from,? How did the company first start up? What steps did they take to get to where they are now? Where there any road black along the way?

I don’t believe I have every talked about how Replica Airguns came to be in any of my videos, where and when it all started, so why not talk about it now…

And I don’t have any Airguns to review at the moment so I need to make a video of some sort…

Where Have I Been Update?

This video is primarily for my viewers over on the Replica Airguns channels as I have not posted anything about what's been going on with me the last month and a bit. My Airgun channel does not have very much personal content like my GetFitOver40 channel does, so I wanted to fill them in on where I have been and what's been going on.

In this video I talk about being in the hospital for a month because I was experiencing shortness of breath and a feeling of pressure in my diaphragm area which was later found out to be a heart problem.

Unknown to me I had been born with a Congenital Heart Defect where my Aortic Valve was defective which over time had cause the Aortic Root area to double in size (3cm normal to 6cm).

This defect caused my heart to work a lot harder then normal making it enlarge over time which is not good and reduces it's pumping ability. Before my operation my heart function was below 20%, a normal healthy heart is around 60%.

While in the hospital I had open heart surgery on my Aortic valve replacing it along with a section above it. I also had a Pacemaker/Defibrillator put in. There where a lot of concerns because my heart was also enlarged and not functioning that well, the doctor even said they may not be able to get me off of bypass which would then require an emergency heart transplant. The good news is the operation went well and no need for a new heart at least for now...

I was in the hospital for longer than normal because of my enlarged heart and because of all the stress to it. I was in and out of what's called Atrial Fibrillation. This is when the heart beats very irregularly and faster than normal. It can be short term or longer term and can sort itself out or require intervention to help get back to a Sinus Rhythm. At the time of this post I believe it has gone back to the normal Sinus Rhythm, so fingers crossed it stays this way.

As you can imagine, this has been a life changing event and means my lifestyle will be changing a bit. I will not be doing anything to overstress my heart but that does not mean no more fitness for me, just a different fitness approach. Perhaps a more scaled back approach but I am always up for a challenge and this is no different in terms of how I would approach any challenge in my life.

So if you are a Replica Airguns follower and want to follow my "Road to Recovery" you can do that over on my GetFitOver40 channels. Other than that I will be making regular Airgun Videos moving forward now that I am at home.

Replica Airguns Huge Mystery Box Unboxing

As the title suggest this a video about a Huge Mystery Box so I am not going to say what’s in it, I can say that their are 4 main products mostly rifles per-say. One is a Futuristic Full Auto BB Rifle, one is a Paintball Shotgun, One is an AEG Airsoft Rifle and one is a Replica Break Barrel Pellet Rifle.

So I have a lot of variety here to show everyone! I did absolutely zero research on any of the products I show in this video since like you I had no real idea what was inside other than how many and that most where rifle based.

Enjoy finding out what new products I will be reviewing over the next month with dedicated Table Top and Field Test Shooting videos.

Replica Airguns October 2022 Update

I have been making a bunch of instructional videos lately mainly because i have not had a lot of new products to share with everyone, I am expecting 4 new Airguns that where supposed to arrive on Monday but Canada Post has for some reason delayed their arrival and so I am not sure when I will see them? Hopefully very soon!

As soon as they arrive I will make a Preview Video to show off all 4 products, sorry I can not tell you what they are as I don’t know, it’s a surprise for all of us which can be fun opening up a mystery box :) I will also be making dedicated Table Top and Field Test Shooting Videos for all 4 guns which should keep me busy for the next month or so…

On another note I am around 5 weeks out to my latest Fitness Show the Vancouver Fall Classic where I will be competing in Mens Physique and possibly Men’s Classic Physique. This event is taking place local to me in New Westminster BC Canada on November the 12th if anyone is local and wants to check it out!

I mention this because over the next 5 weeks I begin to do the most challenging part of my contest prep which requires a very strict low calorie diet along with a ton of activity (generally weight training 6 day per week with at least 5-6 miles of walking each day). This puts me in a good caloric deficit which enables me to lose around 2 pounds of fat per week which I am hoping will get me to around 5% body fat by show day this time around.

This is not a healthy body fat to be in for any length of time but is what I need to do to be competitive and show off the muscle on stage I have added during my contest prep. Less fat means more muscle detail which makes the muscle look bigger on stage.

This does all come at a cost of me feeling rather like garbage much of the time as my body is thinking I am starving and as expected will try and deter me from this course of action by making me extra hungry and very tired. Also keeping me awake much of the night so I can go out and find food LOL.

So if you notice me looking a little off this is why, I will do my best to still be entertaining and pleasant during my videos but I do get a bit irritated and I often lose my train of thought. You can checkout my Fitness stuff over on my fitness page www.GetFitOver40.com if this type of thing interests you.
