Full Auto Fun Summer 2024 Barra 400e Take 2

Here is video four in my series of Full Auto Fun videos I make each summer where I pick a few Full Auto Airguns and record some fun outside shooting with them. In this years Full Auto Fun Video series I do a bit of a walk around on my property and shoot a bunch of water filled pop cans. Maybe this doesn’t sound super exciting but I do use some really creative camera angles to capture it all which makes it lot more interesting to watch for sure!

My Airguns of choice in this years Full Auto Fun Series are all 4.5mm BB Full Auto Airguns this time around. They are the Barra 400e 4.5mm BB AEG Full Auto BB Rifle, the KWA Mini UZI Blowback CO2 4.5mm BB Machine Gun and the the Crosman A4-P Blowback CO2 4.5mm BB Pistol.

In this fourth Full Auto Fun video, I retest the Barra 400e 4.5mm BB AEG Full Auto BB Rifle in full auto this time, and try a bit of a different camera angle approach with my HoverAir Drone Camera switching it to follow mode as it doesn’t stop recording so easily in this mode. And as expected, it worked a lot better for me with this setup and continued recording the entire video. I also recoded using my Meta Glasses to get the first person view and like the other videos I placed my Insta360 X4 camera on the barrel again to get some cool up front gun angle shots. I think this setup works well and will probably use it for future Full Auto Fun Videos where I am running around the yard shooting stuff. Maybe there will be a couple more bonus guns in this years Full Auto Fun Series? No promises!

Full Auto Fun Summer 2024 Barra 400e

I try to make at least one series of Full Auto Fun video each summer where I pick a few Full Auto Airguns and record some fun outside shooting with them.

In this first Full Auto Fun video I start with the Barra 400e 4.5mm BB AEG Full Auto BB Rifle, but in the all the camera and audio setup confusion, I forgot to put it in Full Auto (getting old), so this is really not a Full Auto Fun Video, it was still fun and I hope you enjoy it anyway. The other videos in this Full Auto Fun Series are for sure in Full Auto and I will be taking out the Barra 400e and give it another go in Full Auto this time so stay posted for the true Full Auto Fun Video for the Barra 400e shortly!

Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle FIeld Test Review

What you can expect from this Field test Shooting Video for the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle are two things for sure. I test out the velocity with both 4.5mm Steel BB’s and .177 caliber lead pellets, I also chuck both of these rounds downrange to see if one may be more accurate than the other and how close I can get a 5 shot grouping for each ammunition type. If you are looking for details and specifications and perhaps some more close up video of the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle then you may want to watch my Table Top Video for it here.

If you have watched any of my hundreds of Field Test Videos, then you already know I start off shooting 5 or so rounds through my Chronograph to see what the average velocity is going to be. In this Field Test I shoot 3 rounds of each ammo type, 3 BB’s and 3 pellets since it is a pump Airgun and they tend to be more consistent than a CO2 Airgun. Barra claims around 350 fps, I am not sure if this is for BB’s or Pellets or both? As it turns out (spoiler alert), both ammo types performed about the same in both the velocity and accuracy portion of my testing. For BB’s, my chronograph testing got 303, 316 and 316 for an average of 312 fps. For pellets my chronograph results were 309, 309, 314 for an average of 311, so only 1 fps off between the two. Keep in mind the BB’s weigh around 5.1 grain while the pellets I was using were around 7 grain, so the pellets will be carrying more energy downrange and hit a bit harder. By the way they are also harder to load so I would suggest just shooting the steel BB’s in this one since you can keep the fun times flowing better...

Next up for my accuracy test of the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle, I again shot both ammo types, but 5 rounds of each and just like the velocity test they matched each other almost exactly. Both the steel BB’s and lead pellets I was using shot really well centered left to right, maybe just a hair to the left and both shot just about an inch or so high on the bullseye I was aiming at 30 feet away. The 5 BB’s grouped nicely for me at about an inch while the pellets did get a slightly tighter 3/4 inch grouping for me in this test. I was using a semi rested shooting position sitting on a stool in the back with the rifle rested on a sand bag up front.

The Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle really surprised me in how it performed, It’s not going to be the most powerful BB/pellet cowboy rifle out there but compared to a Red Ryder it does have a bit more punch and in terms of accuracy I found it shot better for me than at least I can do with a Red Ryder type BB rifle. You also have the option of shooting BB’s or Pellets but I would recommend shooting BB’s since you have that 50 round hopper and the BB’s auto load when you pull the bolt back which is much easier than loading pellets with a pair of tweezers which is what I needed to do to get them in with my sausage fingers. One more thing to mention is I do not recommend pumping this air rifle more than 1 time, not only does the manual say not to, but there is little benefit in pumping it more times with only the risk to damaging the airgun. I pumped it 4 times and only got about 20 fps more out of it so just don’t do it. If you want a Cowboy style Air Rifle with a little more realism than say a Red Ryder but that shoots about the same then checkout the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle.

Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle Table Top Review

Type: Lever/Pump Dual Ammo Rifle
Manufacturer: Distributed by Barra.
Model: Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle.
Materials: Mostly plastic, some metal.
Weight: 4.1 pounds (1859 grams).
Total Length: 36 inches (91.44mm).
Barrel: 18 inches (45.7cm) metal rifled.
Propulsion: Pump Compressed Air.
Action: Lever/Pump
Ammunition Type: .4.5mm steel BB’s & .177 Caliber Pellets.
Ammunition Capacity: 50 BB’s in hopper, single shot Pellets.
FPS: Claimed 350-400.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle is respectable at about 5 pounds with a medium to short pull length. I would say it is perfect for novice shooters as it is not overly light so as not to go off easily by accident and not too heavy for youth shooters with less finger strength than adults. When you pull the bolt back to reload the ammo, the internal cocking mechanism is activated allowing for single action type shooting. You do need to activate the bolt with each shot.

Accuracy: My dedicated field test shooting video is planned for this week, so for now I have no idea what to expect in terms of velocity and accuracy from the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle, other than it is claimed to shoot around 350 fps when using pellets. It does have an 18 inch rifles barrel which should contribute to helping a lot with accuracy, so I do have high expectations especially since it has a pretty good trigger and when looking down the sights they allow for a nice tight fix on the target. The rear stock is short but not so short that it feels cramped for an adult shooter which should also help when I perform my accuracy test.

Build Quality: The Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle is nothing special when it comes to materials being used in it. It is for the most plastic with the exception of the inner and outer barrel along with the rear sight and I would imagine some other internal parts. It does feel not so bad as it is a bit over 4 pounds and is smaller in nature so it feels solid enough in the hand. I wish the Pump/Lever was metal as it would of felt a bit more solid and would have added a bit more additional weight to the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle. Fit and finish is good and overall the gun looks and feels good.

Realism: The Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle is essentially styled after the Old West Lever Action Cowboy Rifle, and it has everything we would expect other than loading shells which is available in other Lever Action Air Rifles if you don’t mind paying a premium for one. The lever is actually not a lever but more of a pump so the action and look of the lever is not exactly as you would expect from a true lever action rifle, but when it is locked in place it does look the part. The gold receiver and rifle band looks sharp and I feel matches up with the dark imitation wood stock nicely. One point to make is that the hammer is not the hammer but actually the safety and the bolt not only opens the breach area but also acts as the cocking mechanism for the internal hammer.

Pros:

  • Super easy to pump.

  • Fit and finish looks decent for a mostly plastic airgun.

  • In terms of realism it does look like a more compact lever action rifle for the most part

  • Can shoot either BB’s or Pellets.

  • Holds 50 BB’s in the hoper for quicker follow up shooting.

  • Metal octagon outer barrel adds addition weight to a mostly plastic gun.

  • Rear sight is metal and is also adjustable for elevation.

  • Trigger pull is pretty decent, not too light but is short and about 5 pounds.

  • Recessed barrel for added realism.

  • Made for kids but the shoulder pull length and sight placement works for adults too.

  • The gold receiver looks good and gives it a unique look.

Cons:

  • Mostly plastic build.

  • Manual says only one pump but I wonder why this is the case or perhaps just to deregulate it?

  • Pellets are hard to load especially if you have larger hands and fingers.

Comments:

The Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle is a competitor for products like the Red Ryder but it has a bit more realism in terms of looking more like a replica of a real steel Lever Action Cowboy Rifle. It also allows for shooting pellets and has an actual rifled barrel so hopefully this helps with accuracy. You can still kind of shoot it Lever Action Style when shooting BB’s but there is the addition of charging the bolt with each shot over and above working the Lever / Pump, so it will take a bit more time to get those follow up shots as compared to a Red Ryder BB Rifle. One other point to make is that the lever is actually not a lever but more of a pump since this is not spring powered but instead has an air reservoir which on this version only allows for one pump, but on the non-junior version you can pump it up to 10 times and get a claimed 800 fps out of it (US Version). I am going to try pumpkin the Barra 1866 Junior Dual Ammo Pump Cowboy Rifle up to three times to see if there is any difference in power but this could void your warranty if you damage the air reservoir by over pressuring it. So be good and only pump yours once as instructed in the manual.

Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver Field Test Review

In this performance Field Test Shooting Video of the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver, I find out what the velocity in fps is using a brand new standard 12 gram CO2 cartridge shooting 4.5mm Steel BB’s through my Chronograph in the Replica Airguns Sea Can Indoor Shooting Range. I then setup a fresh paper target 30 feet down range and shoot 10 rounds into it shooting in Single Action to see how tight of a grouping I can get out of the box. If you have not already watched my Table Top Video Review for the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver then make sure to check that one out for details and specifications along with some more close up video.

First up for my velocity or fps test of the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver, I shot 6 4.5mm Steel BB’s through my Chronograph. The slowest velocity was 327 fps and the fastest shot hit an fps of 351, this result averaged 345 fps which was a bit under the claimed “up to” 400 fps from Barra, still a usable velocity for shooting pop cans and the likes at 30-40 feet down range. The temperature in the Sea Can was I would say around 20 degrees Celsius which is 68-69 degrees Fahrenheit, so a decent temperature to get middle of the road performance from a CO2 Airgun like the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver. In warmer temperature you can expect closer to the claimed 400 fps.

I then placed my fresh paper target on the pellet trap 30 feet downrange and using my standard semi rested shooting position (hands rested on a sandbag up front and sitting on a stool in the back), I shot 10 rounds into the target and was able to get a respective 2.5 inch shot grouping shooting in Single Action of course. I did notice the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver liked to shoot a bit high, almost 4-5 inches higher than I was aiming but it did center left to right fairly well.

The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is a lower cost and almost all plastic Single Action Revolver with only a few internal meat parts in the build, that said it does feel well built and fairly solid in the hand. It may produce that claimed 400 fps velocity by Barra in warmer conditions which is more than enough for plinking and pop can shooting which is really what the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is designed to do. I found it to be accurate enough for it’s intended purpose but it did push a little high on the target out of the box, at least my demo unit would require me to aim a little under my intended target by about 4-5 inches at 30 feet away for near bullseye shots as there is no way to adjust the sights manually. The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver will provide lots of shots per CO2 and has a much higher capacity magazine holding 18 rounds as compared to other shell loading revolvers that only hold 6 rounds. If you’re OK with a bit less realism, then the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver may even outperform the more expensive and more realistic Single Action Army Revolvers on the market at a less expensive price point.

Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver Table Top Review

TypeBB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Distributed by Barra.
Model: 1858 Cowboy Series.
Materials: Mostly plastic, some internal metal parts.
Weight: 1 pound (455 grams).
Total Length: 12 inches (30.5cm).
Barrel: 5.35 inches (13.5cm) metal non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2.
Action: Revolver SAO.
Ammunition Type: 4.5mm Steel BB’s.
Ammunition Capacity: 18 round internal magazine.
FPS: Claimed 400.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is a single action only trigger, so you will need to cock the hammer back before each shot which does take away almost all of the trigger pull length and weight, making it short and light and easy to shoot. Perfect for slowed down accurate shot placement, but less effective as an action shooter.

Accuracy: I have not tested out the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver but it is a lot like the Crosman Fortify SA CO2 BB Revolver so I am thinking it will perform at lot like that CO2 BB Revolver, if you want to get an idea on how the Barra 1858 might perform, you can watch my Crosman Fortify Filed Test Shooting Video to get a heads up before I make my official Filed Test Shooting Video for the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver.

Build Quality: When it comes to the build for the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver, there is not a lot to really get super excited about. It is basically a mostly all plastic gun with some metal parts internally like the barrel, trigger, hammer and CO2 area. The Barra 1858 has that lower cost Airgun, two halves, screwed together build which generally looks better on the side without the screws showing. As it is mostly plastic it is very light in the hand at only just about a pound or so. Overall there are not a lot of moving parts so it should be reliable enough just because there is not much to break or go wrong. All the mechanical components do what they need to do and feel solid enough.

Realism: The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver at a glance looks a lot like a Remington 1858 Single Action Revolver, it has the same shape and size but the weight is way less being mostly plastic. The lack of actual bullet holes in the cylinder looking at it from the front of the revolver also takes away from the realism. I guess I am really used to the new generation revolvers with working cylinders and real loadable shells but these guns are more expensive and hold less ammo as they are genuine to the 6 shooter capacity. The barrel is however recessed which is nice.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive revolver as compared to other shell loading styled revolvers out there.

  • A decent looking replica of a Remington 1858 Revolver.

  • Single action only trigger is short and light and well suited to careful shot placement shooting.

  • 400 claimed fps is about perfect for plinking at ranges up 30-40 feet.

  • 18 round magazine has a nice high capacity and easy to load when empty.

  • Should get lots of shots per CO2 as there will be very little CO2 leakage with a non shell loading design.

  • Safety is well well hidden just in front of the trigger so easy to get to.

  • Has a recessed barrel for added realism.

  • CO2 Allen key is built into grip so always have it on hand and will not lose it.

  • White markings as an warnings are not super obvious, could be a little lighter.

  • Comes with two starter CO2’s and some 4.5mm Steel BB’s.

Cons:

  • Almost all plastic builds makes it a bit light in the hand.

  • No fake shell holes in the front of the cylinder, could have added this for a more genuine look.

  • Sights are non adjustable but fairly normal for an inexpensive plinker.

Comments:
The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is a completely new concept in design over what we have become use to in todays Single Action Legend Revolvers with their shell loading design, the Crosman Fortify as I have mentioned is the only other new classic cowboy Revolver on the market like it so perhaps there will be more in the future. My shooting experience with the Crosman Fortify CO2 BB Revolver was about what I expected, it shot pretty close to the claimed fps and got around a 2 inch 10 round grouping shooting at a paper target 30 feet down range. So we will see if the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver performs about the same which was respectable. For a low cost BB Revolver you kind of get what you pay for here, which is not a bad deal at the end of the day considering the lower cost to get you up and shooting.

Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol Field Test Review

My First Field Test Shooting Video since I got back from SHOT Show and it was nice to get some trigger time in with a crisp blowback CO2 BB Pistol! In this performance test of the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol I find out what the velocity is using a brand new standard 12 gram CO2 shooting 4.5mm Steel BB’s through my Chronograph. I then setup a fresh paper target 30 feet down range and shoot 10 rounds into it in semi auto to see how tight of a grouping I can get. Since the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol can also shoot in full auto I of course give the full auto selector a twist and see if I can get any rounds on the paper shooting a full mag dump. If you have not already watched my Table Top Video Review for the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol then make sure to do so for details and specifications.

First up for my velocity test of the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol, I shot 6 rounds through my Chronograph but only took the first 5 as they were the highest in fps. The slowest fps was 309 with the fastest shot hitting 325 fps, this averaged 317 fps which is about what I expected from a Full Blowback CO2 BB pistol from KWC. Temperature was about 20 degrees Celsius which is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit by the way so good to get middle of the road performance here.

I then placed my paper target up 30 feet downrange and using a semi rested shooting position (hands rested on a sandbag up front and sitting on a stool in the back), I shot 10 rounds into the target and was abel to get around a 2 inch shot grouping in semi auto. I did end up having to shoot rather high on the target to get near the bullseye so out of the box I would say the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol shoots at least 6-8 inches low at 30 feet out. It did however shoot on the mark from side to side. Next I reloaded the magazine with 18 rounds and selected full auto. All I can tell you is the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol has a crazy fast rate of fire and the gun was for the most part not very controllable as it was rocking back and forth a ton. I did get a few rounds on the target but do not suggest shooting in full auto unless your target is literally right in front of you as you probably will not hit it.

The Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol was about what I expected from a KWC Full Blowback CO2 BB Pistol and that’s a good thing. You can expect hard blowback action, a nice single action trigger. Decent accuracy in semi auto mode and enough velocity to put holes in cans 30-40 feet away. It did shoot rather low on the target then I would like to see, so you will have to aim at the top of your target to hit the bottom at least at 30 feet away. If you like a Semi Auto Full Blowback BB Pistol that has the option of shooting in full auto and looks a bit like a Glock, then the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol may be a good option for you!

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns - Barra Interview

I’m pretty sure I have never made an Interview for Barra before in any of my past SHOT Show Videos, so I was really happy when I visited their booth and discovered a bunch of really great new products to talk about with GEO. Like many other Airgun companies, Barra does incorporate rebranded products from other manufacturer popular Airguns, but they also have some unique products I have never seen before. They are either working really closely with dedicated manufacturing companies or making these items in house. Either way it’s great to see new and interesting products.

Some of the products Geo went over with me in this SHOT Show 2024 Barra Interview where: The Barra CO2 1866 Lever Action Rifle, some Rifled Pellet Barrel Kits for the Schofield Revolver and 1866 Rifle, the 1858 CO2 BB Revolver, the 357 Shell Loading CO2 Revolver, the 400 AEG Airsoft Rifle and two new nameless Airguns they are still working on and perfecting, a full Blowback Competition Style BB/Airsoft Pistol and a compact AEG Airsoft Rifle.

It was great talking with the team over at the Barra Booth and I look forward to testing out their new items as they become available.

SHOT Show 2024 Replica Airguns Teaser

I’m back from SHOT Show 2024 and I always like to start off my series of SHOT Show Interview videos with a Teaser Video that not only shows off a few new guns but also gives everyone a vibe of what it feels like to visit Las Vegas and SHOT Show. I can only show you so much because as you know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…

I did get the chance to interview several Airgun Companies that I will be putting together Interview Videos for, including Umarex, ASG, KWA, Barra, EKOL and Byrna. Unfortunately Sig Sauer is no longer attending SHOT Show and Crosman had significantly reduced the focus of their booth and really did not have much in the way of Replica Airguns to show.

Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol Table Top Review

Type: Blowback CO2 BB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Distributed by Barra.
ModelBarra 009.
Materials: Metal & Polymer.
Weight: 1.7 pounds (771 grams).
Total Length: 7.75 inches (197mm)
Barrel: 4 inches (102nn) metal non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x 1.
Action: Semi & full auto blowback, single action only trigger.
Ammunition Type: 4.5mm steel BB's.
Ammunition Capacity: 18 round drop out full size metal magazine.
FPS: Claimed 325.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol is single action only so you will need to rack the slide first to not only chamber a 4.5mm Steel BB in the breach area, but to also cock the internal striker system. There is a working trigger safety along with a main safety under the barrel where the serial number is normally located. You can slide this back and forth to activity the safety. The Barra 009 has a nice short and light trigger as you would expect similar to a real steel Glock pistol.

Accuracy: At this point I have not shot the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol so I can only quote what Barra is saying in terms of FP2 which is 325. That sounds about right based on other BB Pistols from KWC with full blowback action since much of the CO2 gas is used to work the action of the slide. This not only reduces how many shots you can expect to get out of a single 12 gram CO2 cartridge but a reduction in power over non-blowback or even partial blowback CO2 Airguns. I will be making a full Field Test Shooting Video for this BB Pistol but for now you can check out my Field Test Review for the KWC K17 since it is the same base Air Pistol with a few cosmetic changes.

Build Quality: The Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol looks to be well made overall with metal and plastic parts where you would find them on a real steel modern Pistol. Fit and finish is typical of a KWC made Airgun and the slide wiggle is next to zero. The slide spring is very heavy and the sound of the slide when racked and released does not have that cheap metallic sound some blowback Airguns have. I am expecting some pretty decent blowback action recoil from the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol when I do my Field Test Shooting Review!

Realism: The Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol looks similar to a Glock but with many cosmetic changes that do differentiate it a fair amount, as in the trigger guard, the grips, the thumb guard shape and the finishing on the slide. Mostly everything operates function similar to what you would expect for a Glock styled pistol including the slide catch release, trigger safety, magazine release and even the take down switches for quick field stripping and access to the adjustable hop-up, yes it is adjustable.

Pros:

  • Feels very solid in the hand and well made. (Assuming it is a KWC made gun)

  • Shoots in both semi and Full Auto.

  • Has full heavy blowback operations similar to an Airsoft Pistol.

  • Full metal full size drop out magazine that holds the steel BB’s and CO2.

  • Dual safeties, under the barrel and on the trigger.

  • White dot sights front and back.

  • Fully Field Strippable.

  • Recessed barrel for added realism.

  • Metal slide with polymer frame similar to a real steal modern firearm.

  • Picatinny rail for adding on accessories.

  • If you like that look of a Glock you will probably like the look of the Barra 009.

  • 325 fps is decent for a full blowback BB gun.

Cons:

  • Full Blowback operation will limit velocity and shots per CO2.

  • Sights are not adjustable.

  • Barrel opening maybe a bit under sized?

Comments:

If you want a true Glock Replica Airgun your best bet is going to be one from Umarex as they hold the Glock license and offer several options in Steel BB, Pellet, Airsoft and even Paintball. They do not offer a full auto version as far as I know so if you do want a semi and full auto Glock styled BB Pistol then the Barra 009 Full Auto Blowback CO2 BB Pistol may be one of your only options and to be honest, Umarex is sourcing many of their Glock Airguns from KWC, so you will not be compromising with quality or reliability as the build will be about the same.

Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol Field Test Review

If you are looking for a proper shooting video view for the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol that get’s right to the meat and potatoes without any time waisting fluff, then you came to the right place. In this video I test out the actual real world velocity and accuracy of the Barra 380 in the Replace Airguns in door Sea Can Airgun Shooting Range. If you are more interested in details and specifications or perhaps some close up video of the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol then checkout my Table Top Video Review here.

So let’s get right to it! For my Chronograph Test I put a brand new 12 gram CO2 into the Berra 380, I made sure everything was about room temperature 20C - 69F (Gun, CO2 and shooting area), and then proceed to shoot 5 rounds through my Chronograph. I was able to average 407 fps which is damn close to Berra’s claim of 410 fps so this first test was a pass!

For my Accuracy Test I used my standard 30 foot paper target setup where I sit on a stool in the back with my hands rested on a sand bag up front. This allows for pretty stable shooting with less human factor than an unrested shooting position. It is not perfect but gives us an idea of the potential of the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol. I proceeded to shoot 10 rounds into a fresh pepper target and got what I would say was a 2 inch grouping again from 30 feet away. There are no sight adjustment on the Barra 380 so I was hoping my grouping would be close to the bullseye and it was. Just a bit high but fairly well centered left and right. If you are aiming at a pop can 30 feet away you would most lily hit it every time near the top of the can if you placed your aim point at the bottom of the can (Just a Tip).

So how did the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol do? Pretty good and kind of as expeceted. I have shot a bunch of these CO2, NBB, DAO Trigger, Stick Magazine, BB Pistols that have the exact same mechanic internal attributes but with a different skin on the outside. And they generally do a good job of compromising between price, function, power, CO2 efficiency, accuracy, realism and fun factor. If you like more of a Beretta look then perhaps the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol is the right choice in one of these fairly basic NBB CO2 BB Pistols but take a look around the Replica Airguns store and see what else may catch your eye.

Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol Table Top Review

Type: Non-blowback CO2 BB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Distributed by Barra.
ModelBarra 380.
Materials: Mostly plastic.
Weight: .93 pounds (422 grams).
Total Length: 6.89inches (175mm).
Barrel: 4.25 inches (108mm) metal non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x 1.
Action: Semi auto non-blowback, DOA trigger.
Ammunition Type: .4.5mm steel BB’s.
Ammunition Capacity: 20 round drop out metal stick magazine.
FPS: Claimed 410.

Trigger Pull: The Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol has a typical double action trigger with a longer trigger pull that requires more length and effort to pull, but I would say is still usable as an action shooter. Your finger will get a bit tired after several magazines of action shooting. The Barra 380 trigger pull makes the internal metal barrel move forward and out of the front of the barrel opening enough to see it clearly, then when you reach the release point it snaps back into the BB Pistol acting like the hammer and releasing CO2 and shooting a BB.

Accuracy: I have yet to shoot the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol or even performed my standard Field Test Shooting Video as of yet, so I can not comment at this time on the actual performance other than what is claimed in terms of fps - 410fps by the way. I have shot several similar CO2 BB Pistols which share almost the exact same internal components but have a different external skin on them. One benefit is that all this style of metal stick magazines are the same so they will be interchangeable. My previous experiences with similar BB Pistols is that they will get mid 400fps velocities and in general will shot around a 2 inch grouping or so. It is hard to say how close theBarra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol is going to shoot to the bullseye, as out of the box it may shoot a bit high or low or left or right. We will find out during my shooting test.

Build Quality: The Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol is a pretty much almost all plastic Airgun with only a few metal parts I can see on it. The trigger is metal along with the inner barrel and the area where the CO2 goes in. Because of the plastic build, it is rather light weight which can actually be good if you where to drop it on a hard surface as the mass is low resulting in less damage. Scratches will also be less noticeable on a plastic Airgun over a metal Airgun as the material on a plastic Airgun is all tan/black throughout the material rather than a painted surface that will show blemishes a lot more. The simplicity of the design means you should get a lot of use from the Barra 380 before encountering any issues.

Realism: The Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol is not a replica of an exact real steel gun in production but it does take after a compact Beretta when you look at the open barrel and similar trigger guard. There are few external mechanical working parts on the Barra 380 CO2 NBB BB Pistol other than the trigger, safety, magazine and inner barrel. The barrel is slightly recessed and the CO2 tab is hidden in the grip which helps in terms of it looking the part.

Pros:

  • Nice compact size BB pistol easy to transport.

  • Decent FPS rating of 410.

  • Should get lots of shots per CO2 as it is non-blowback

  • Picatinny rail on frame for adding accessories.

  • Does have a white dot sight up front.

  • Finger groves on pistol grips for a secure grip.

  • CO2 tab is well hidden within the grip.

  • Double action trigger pull is long but not too firm.

  • Uses a generic all metal stick magazines commonly found on lower cost BB pistols.

  • Simple design with not a lot of moving parts will make it reliable for a long time.

Cons:

  • All plastic gun for the most part.

  • Not many working parts, pretty much all moulded gun.

  • Grip can pop of kind of easy if you pull a bit hard.

  • Sights are non adjustable and no white dots on the rear sight.

Comments:

I often mention how I prefer blowback Airguns that have a more solid weight and feel to them with more working parts, but again there is a lot more that can go wrong and complex parts wear out over usage a lot quicker than a more simple design as in the the case of the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol. Price is also going to be a lot less when looking a more simplified Air Pistol like the Barra 380, as the plastic build is a lot cheaper to produce over more expensive metals. Another bonus with non-blowback CO2 airguns is that they do tend to have a higher velocity with more shots per CO2 than a similar CO2 Blowback Pistol, so less expensive to shoot over time. It really depends what you are really looking for? A couple other strong points to mention about the Barra 380 NBB CO2 BB Pistol would be the compatibility with other similar styled CO2 BB pistol metal stick magazines and if you like the look of a Beretta then you may also like the look of the Barra 380.

BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Field Test Review

You may be thinking, not another KWC 1911 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Review! I get it, there are so many renditions of this 1911 Air Pistol either direct from KWC or distributed through almost all the big Airgun companies with their unique branding and licensing. Is there anything different about this version? In terms of performance not really, they all shoot about the same which is good. Not the highest fps but great triggers, nice heavy blowback operation and pretty consistent and decent accuracy. Really the only difference with the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is it is a bit chunkier than most other KWC based 1911’s which is mostly from the more beefy picatinny rail. You can watch my Table Top Video Review for more details and specification along with more close up video of the Barra 4006 here.

Getting right into the Field Test part of this Review video, I shot 5 rounds through my Chronograph using a brand new CO2 in average room temperature conditions and I was able to average 292 fps with the slowest velocity hitting 286 fps and the fastest velocity hitting 300 fps. The general claimed fps for Full Blowback CO2 BB KWC 1911’s is around 330 as a best case most likely in very warm conditions. 300 fps is all you need to shoot pop cans and paper targets 30 feet away and feel like a champ doing so.

When it comes to the accuracy of the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol, I was not surprised to get around a 2 inch 10 round grouping at 30 feet away shooting at a paper target. This is pretty much exactly what I get from all the KWC Full Blowback 1911 BB shooters out there. Out of the box I did shoot a tad bit to the left but in terms of elevation the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol was up for the job at 30 feet out. Since the white dot sights are non-adjustable, you will have to shoot just slightly to the right to drop pop cans consistently but this again is going to be the case with just about any BB or pellet pistol that does not have adjustable sights. They rarely ever shoot perfectly dead center on the bullseye. You could add an adjustable laser sight to the picatinny rail if you do want more precision aiming.

So that brings us to the concluding of this Filed Test Shooting Video for the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol. All in all a super fun 1911 Replica Airgun with one of the best trigger out there, nice heavy blowback action, velocity that gets the job done and accuracy to match. I have a soft spot for 1911’s and I love full blowback all metal Airguns, the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol seems to have little bit more heft to me (@ 2.2 pounds) which I like in a 1911, perhaps closer to a real steel 1911 in this case. Another great CO2 Blowback BB Pistol to chooses from!

BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Table Top Review

Type: Blowback CO2 BB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Distributed by BARRA/KWC.
Model: 1911 4006.
Materials: Mostly Metal.
Weight: 2.1 pounds (953 grams).
Total Length: 8.7 inches (220mm).
Barrel: 4.7 inches (119mm) metal non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x 1.
Action: Semi auto blowback, SOA trigger.
Ammunition Type: .4.5mm steel BB’s.
Ammunition Capacity: 17 round drop out full size metal magazine.
FPS: Claimed 370.

Trigger Pull: The Single Action Only trigger pull on the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is like all other KWC design full blowback 1911’s. This is a good thing since it is one of the best triggers on a KWC Airgun, really short and really light! The main reason for the excellent SAO trigger is because the blowback action not only cycles the slide but it also load a BB in the breach and also cocks the hammer allowing for a simple hammer release by way of the trigger action.

Accuracy: At this point I have not shot the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol or performed my Field Test shooting Video. That said since I have reviewed a ton of the KWC 1911’s and they all share the same mechanics features, I expect the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol to get similar results which is an fps about 330 and decent accuracy at 30 feet out.

Build Quality: I says this about just about every KWC based Airgun and the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is no exception, overall the fit and finish is good but the finish can wear a bit over time on the high spots. I will say KWC has gotten better over time with their finish process seeming to wear a lot less than their earlier made products. Like almost all KWC Airguns the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is pretty much full metal with the exception of the grips and the air nozzle.

Realism: The BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is a fantastic replica of a real steel Tactical 1911. And again broken record time here… The entire line of KWC blowback BB Pistols replicates the look and action of their real steel counterparts super closely so unless you get right up n this Replica BB Gun and really inspect it you will not be able to tell it apart from the real version.

Pros:

  • Has that well liked KWC 1911 look in a more modernized tactical design.

  • Has that classic 1911 short and light single action only trigger we all love.

  • Field Strippable just like the real steel version.

  • All working parts just like a real steel 1911.

  • Working grip safety.

  • Full size drop out metal magazine that holds the CO2 and 17 BB’s.

  • Accessory rail on bottom of the frame for add on accessories.

  • Ambitious thumb safety.

  • Recessed barrel for realism.

  • Full blowback action for simulated recoil and a smoother trigger.

  • Good overall fit and finish.

Cons:

  • Painted markings on slide are a bit much.

  • Full blowback operation robs power and shots per CO2.

  • Sights are not adjustable.

Comments:

What can I really say about the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol? It’s pretty much exactly like all the other KWC built 1911’s but perhaps with i't’s own slightly different look to it. Thats not a bad thing since this design has been around for I am not sure but I want to say over a decade now so anything that needed to be worked out has been worked out. I loved the KWC 1911 when it first came out and still love any one of these new version today. If you’re in the market for a full blowback CO2 BB Pistol then take your pick, I like the heft and tactical modern design of the BARRA 4006 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol and also appreciate that it still has some classic 1911 component going on.

Update Preview Video - 3 BB-Pellet Pistols from Gamo - ASG - Barra

In this Update Preview Video I take a look at three CO2 Air Pistols from ASG, Gamo and Barra. All shoot 4.5mm steel BB’s and one can also shoot .177 caliber pellets. two of them have blowback action. Two are also styled after the popular 1911 Semi Auto Pistol. The ASG 1911 has a unique magazine and chambering system that is the first I have seen of this in a Blowback Airgun. It offers with blowback operation along higher fps and a nice light semi auto trigger, which is a combination not offered in many Airguns.

BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle Field Test Review

In this Field Test Shooting Video I test out the BARRA 400e Full Auto AEG 4.5mm BB Rifle to test out the velocity along with the accuracy and also get an idea on what the rate of fire is in Full Auto mode as on the box it claims 550 rounds per minute using what I would assume is a 7.4 volt battery. I wanted to test the BARRA 400e using an 11.1 volt battery but mine died on me. I will more than likely make a short video where I test out the 11.1 volt battery to see how this effects the rate of fire. If you want more information on specifications and details for the BARRA 400e then check my Table Table Video for it here.

Starting with testing out the Velocity for the BARRA 400e Full Auto AEG 4.5mm BB Rifle I shoot 6 rounds through my Chronograph to average out the fps and I was able to average 385 fps which is fairly close to the claimed 410 fps. Temperature does not effect an AEG as no CO2 is being used. Battery voltage also does not effect velocity as long as there is enough voltage to make the AEG motor pull the spring all the way back. Only trigger delay and rounds per minute are effected by battery voltage.

Moving on to my accuracy findings, I loaded up a full 50 round magazine and first unloaded 10 rounds fairly quickly into my paper target setup 30 feet down range shooting from a seated shooting position with the BARRA 400e resting on a sand bag up front. I was impressed to get close to a 1 inch 10 round grouping that placed just a little to the left and down from the bullseye right out of the box. I could easily center the sights as they are fully adjustable. I then switched the BARRA 400e Full Auto AEG 4.5mm BB Rifle to full auto and shot the remaining 40 or so rounds into the same paper target and even though the grouping opened up a little bit, it was not by much so accuracy in semi and full auto is very good with the BARRA 400e.

I have to say the rate of fire on the BARRA 400e Full Auto AEG 4.5mm BB Rifle using a 7.4 volt battery is rather slow even compared to other Airsoft AEG Full Auto Airguns but I still yet have to test it out using a brand new 11.1 volt Lithium battery so I do expect the rate of fire to improve a noticeable amount. Stay posted for that update video. Even with the slower rate of fire from the BARRA 400e this gun is awesome, it is really accurate and the velocity stays super consistent since CO2 cool down is not a factor. The mostly all metal construction and overall quality is very good and the fact that this is really the first commercial AEG 4.5mm Steel BB Rifle makes that alone a great reason to pick one up.

BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle Table Top Review

Type: BB Rifle.
Manufacturer: BARRA.
Model: BARRA 400e.
Materials: Mostly Metal with some plastic.
Weight: 7.5 pounds (3.4 kilograms).
Length: 42.25 inches (1073mm).
Propulsion: AEG (with Deans Connectors).
Action: Semi & Full Auto.
Ammunition Type: 4.5mm steel BB's.
Ammunition Capacity: 50 rounds. (1000 shots per battery charge Aprox.)
FPS: 410fps.
Rate of Fire: 550+ rounds per minute in full auto (depending on battery voltage).

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle like other AEG Rifles is not mechanical per say as it is essentially electrical driven so basically it is an on off switch that is closest in feel to a single action only trigger since it is light and short. You will notice a slight delay between pressing the trigger and the actual round being fired since the trigger activates a motor which first pulls the air spring back, once the spring is fully drawn back it releases and compresses the air which then propelled the 4.5mm steel BB. The higher voltage battery you use will shorten the delay as the motor will spin faster and pull back the spring quicker allowing for less noticeable delay and also a higher rate of full auto fire.

Accuracy: I have not Field Test Reviewed the BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle or even tried it out yet as it does not come with a battery or charger and as it uses a Deans connector I will need to get a battery that not only fits this gun size-wise but also has a Deans connector on it. Once I have this battery I will be able to make my Field Test Shooting Video for it. It should have a very consistent velocity since there is no CO2 cool down to factor in so each shot when I Chronograph it should be very similar in fps. I also expect accuracy to be decent since there will not be a lot of recoil as there is no blowback action here.

Build Quality: The BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle is almost all metal in design with an actual CNC machined aluminum hand guard and reciever! It feels very solid when holding it and the fit and finishes are really good. The only plastic I noticed on this AEG styled BB Rifle are the rear stock, pistol grip, and pop-up sights, everything else as far as I can tell are made out of metals.

Realism: The BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle is based on the AR platform in terms of its overall design and looks like a sub variant for sure. It is missing the default forward assist but in all the AIrgun versions of AR typo rifles the forward assist is just for show since there is nothing to assist with an Airgun. Most mechanical parts work as you would expect like the charging handle, magazine release, sectors switch, dust cover and of course the trigger.

Pros:

  • No CO2 required so cost to shoot is less.

  • Very consistent velocity as there is no cool down effect from CO2 cooling the gun.

  • Have the option to shoot in semi or full auto modes.

  • Almost all metal construction, very solid feeling gun.

  • Lots of rail option for mounting accessories (Picatinny on the top and M-LOK on sides and bottom).

  • Flip up sights use a dual mode, when not flipped up you have finer optic lower profile sights, when up there is a post in the front and peep in the back.

  • 6 position adjustable rear stock.

  • Nice high capacity 50 round magazine, will need more mags for sure since you get 1000 shots per battery charge.

  • Comes with a speed loader too.

  • Lots of working parts including the charging handle, dust cover, magazine release, selector switch.

  • Selector switch is ambidextrous.

Cons:

  • No blowback operation as with some other Full Auto BB Rifles like the Crosman AR Series.

  • Does not come with a battery or charger, will need ones that fit and use a Deans connectors.

  • No red dot included with this version but the iron sights are well thought out.

Comments:

The BARRA 400e AEG Full Auto BB Rifle is something new to the Airgun industry and I always like it when a company doesn’t just make their own version of something we already have in the market and basically just put their branding and licensing on all the same guns. BARRA has made what I believe to be the first AEG 4.5mm Steel BB rifle at least one that has come to market and I always wondered why nobody has tried this before? Well here it is and now we get to see how well an AEG performs with 4.5mm Steel BB’s! Maybe this will start a new market of AEG type 4.5mm Steel BB Guns? I say if it works, well then go for it.

Crosman R1 Fallen Patriots - BARRA 400e Preview Unboxing Video

In this Preview Unboxing Video I take a look at two full auto BB Machine guns but both very different and both from two separate companies. One is traditionally CO2 operated and the other is AEG operated which is a very new concept for a 4.5mm Steel BB Airgun. I have always wondered why nobody had attempted an AEG 4.5mm Steel BB gun before so here we have the first one to be released…

Starting with the Crosman R1 Fallen Patriots Full Auto CO2 BB Rifle it is essential a re-skinned R1 with a very unique coloration and of course the Fallen Patriots markings on it. The main receiver is a gun metal grey with black and red accents throughout and a purple-blue magazine. It really is stunning to look at and perhaps my favorite Crosman AR series Full Auto BB Gun to date. You do get pop-up Iron sights rather than a red dot which I feel suits this Airgun best and everything else in terms of specifications will be the same as the R1 so check that rifle out for more info.

Now the BARRA 400e is really something new to Steel BB Guns, basically it steals the AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) from what is typically reserved for Airsoft Rifles. I have always wondered why this technology has never been transferred over to 4.5mm Steel BB Airguns? Well now it has with the BARRA 400e Full Auto AEG BB Rifle. According to BARRA you can export to get around 410 fps and that should be super consistent since there is no CO2 cool down effect. You can also shoot in semi or full auto and it has a 50 round magazine that comes with a speed loader for easy loading. Another point to mention is that the BARRA 400e is almost all metal and feels really solid.
