Which Classic Legends Airgun is the Best?

In this Classic Legends Airguns comparison video I look at a number of different Classic or Legendary BB Airguns and compare them to each other to determine which one I personally feel is the best . My final choices are of course based on my own personal opinion and in this video I end up picking two as they where kind of each in their own class.

Some of the Classic or Legendary Airguns I consider in this comparison video are the: Umarex C98 Mauser Broomhandle, the KWC M712 Mauser Broomhandle, the Gletcher TT Tokarev, the Umarex Colt Combat Vet 1911, the KWC PM Makarov, the Baikal MP654k Makarov, the Umarex Walther P38 and the KWC P08 Luger.

So which Classic Legendary BB Semi Auto Airgun did I choose at the end of the day... You'll just have to watch my YouTube video to find out :)

KWC Mauser M712 Broomhandle CO2 Blowback BB and Airsoft Pistol Update Video

A while back I made a full Table Top Review and Field Test Shooting Review for my sample - pre-production KWC Mauser M712 Broomhandle CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol. Well we finally got the finished product in our Canada Replica Airguns Store and not only in the 6mm Airsoft version but also the 4.5mm Steel BB versions!

I most likely will not be doing another table top review for the KWC Mauser M712 Broomhandle CO2 Blowback BB and Airsoft Pistol since I already made a fairly comprehensive Table Top Review of my sample - pre-production Airsoft unit. The only real difference I could find visually is the markings on the left side of the receiver indicating the pistol is made by KWC in Taiwan and the Caliber it shoots.

I will however be making a side by side Field Test Shooting Comparison Video to see if the production Airsoft version shoots the same as my pre-production model and also how the 4.5mm steel BB version compares in terms of fps and accuracy side by side.

We also have magazines for both of these KWC pistols in our Canada Store!

Make sure to watch my Vimeo Update Video where I show these two very realistic KWC Mauser M712 Broomhandle CO2 Blowback pistols in detail:

KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol Field Test Shooting Review

I've already done a full Table Top Review that included a Pre-test for this war pistol replica where you will find more details and specifications for the KWC Mauser Airsoft pistol.

In this official Field Test Shooting Video, I do my standard Chronograph test where I shoot a series of .25 gram 6mm Plastic Airsoft BB's using a brand new CO2 cartridge to see what kind of real word Feet Per Second performance I can get out of the KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol. On this medium temperature day I averaged a very quick 415 fps which may be a bit hot for most Airsoft matches. The temperature was fairly cool at 14 Celsius or 57 Fahrenheit so the fps will only get faster on a warmer day.

During my Accuracy Shooting Test, I set myself up 30 feet away using a semi-rested stance (Sand bag up front, standing in the back). I did have to adjust my rear sight to the lowest position and even then I found that I needed to aim at the lowest ring on the target to get my shots close to the center and even then they placed a bit high. Even though the KWC Mauser Airsoft Pistol shot high the results where very good, resulting in a 10 shot grouping in the 1.5 to 2 inch range!

Overall I really enjoyed shooting the KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol, the trigger is super nice and short with a light single action release. The blowback action is very quick and snappy which really makes the full auto rate of fire very high. You will go through a 21 round magazine in a hurry! It is a sample or prototype pistol and I would imagine that KWC could work on getting the FPS juts a bit lower so it would be more usable in an Airsoft Game, and while they're at it they should bring the shot placement down just a bit. Other than that it's a really great Airsoft War pistol replica worthy of addition to anyone collection.

KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol Table Top Review

Type: Airsoft Pistol.

Manufacturer:KWC.

Model:Mauser (M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer).

Materials: Almost entirely all Metal.

Weight: 3.15 pounds (1424 grams).

Barrel: 5 inches, metal non-rifled.

Propulsion: 12 gram CO2.

Action: Semi & full auto, single action only with full blowback.

Ammunition Type: 6mm Plastic Airsoft BB's.

Ammunition Capacity: 21 round full size drop out metal magazine.

FPS: 400+.

Trigger Pull: The Single Action Only trigger pull on the KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is what you would expect from a full blowback, true single action only pistol, it has a little bit of take-up and then a smooth fairly light release. Of course when in full auto mode, just press and hold the trigger till the ammo is gone, but don't hold the trigger too long since when the BB's run out, the gun will keep firing as there is no bolt lock back on empty.

Accuracy: It took me a while to figure out exactly where this pistol was actually shooting, but once I realized the KWC Mauser was shooting way high and I adjusted the rear sight all the way to the bottom, I started getting shots at least on to the paper, I did have to hold really low to get near the bulls eye but keep in mind this is a sample pre-production model so some modifications may be in order to correct the rather high shot placement. Over all the accuracy at 30 feet out was very good with about a 2 inch group from 10 shots. Full auto was as you would expect, more of a spray and pray. I do have to say I was surprised by the feet per second performance, even with .25 gram Airsoft BB's I still shot well over 400 fps on a new CO2 cartridge.

Build Quality: The KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is well built being that it is pretty much entirely metal. It weighs in at a whopping 3.15 pounds so be prepared for a heavier gun but you can choose to hold it two handed by using the forward magazine as a sort of fore-grip. Again this was a pre-production sample but even so the fit and finish looked and felt good. I really liked the dark grey finish and very believable plastic wood grain grips.

Realism: The KWC Mauser Airsoft Pistol is spot on replica of the M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer with as far as I can tell all the same working parts including the semi and full auto selector switch. The KWC Mauser also has a full working bolt, hammer, safety, adjustable rear sight and of course full size drop out metal magazine that holds the CO2 and Airsoft BB's.

Purchase from:The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Nice quick snappy blowback.

  • Lots of metal and good overall weight - very heavy

  • Very high fps and good accuracy.

  • Very good replica of a real Mauser (M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer) with all working parts.

  • Nice short single action light trigger.

  • Shoots in both semi and full auto selectable.

  • Will come in 4.5mm Steel BB and 6mm Plastic Airsoft.

Cons:

  • Bolt does not lock back on last shot.

  • Seemed to shoot really high even when adjusted as low as possible.

  • Not totally sure when we will have it in stock?

Comments:

Overall the KWC Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is that all metal version we kind of hoped Umarex had made, and from what I can tell in the KWC product brochure, this one should be available in both 4.5mm Steel BB and 6mm Plastic Airsoft so this should make everyone pretty happy :) Other than the rather high shot placement I really liked the KWC Mauser especially the super high fps and ultra fast rate of fire in full auto mode. Another must have classic war pistol to add to the collection!

KWC P-08 Luger and Mauser CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol Preview

I have some really new guns from KWC for you today, so new that we don't even stock them yet (hopefully soon) and one of then is an un-marked and un-branded sample version that didn't even come in a proper box. Pretty sure this will be the first YouTube video review of it!

It's great that we are starting to see more of the classic older guns, it really give you a chance to appreciate some of the original designs that helped the development of the more modern guns we now have today.

In this preview-review video we take a quick look at the KWC P-08 Luger and KWC Mauser C96 CO2 powered Blowback Airsoft pistols. I will be doing a full table top and field test shooting video for each gun so make sure to check back for them later. I even do a quick comparison to the same style 4.5mm BB pistol offerings from Umarex I already reviewed, the Umarex P-08 and Umarex C96.

Both the KWC P-08 Luger and C96 Mauser are pretty much all metal with full drop out magazines that hold the CO2 and the 6mm plastic Airsoft BB's, the KWC luger holds 15 rounds while the KWC Mauser holds 19 rounds. Since both Airsoft pistols are full metal they come in nice and heavy with the C96 Mauser weighing just a hair over 3 pounds and the P-08 just a bit under 2 pounds. Both pistols have full blowback operation with very nice single action only triggers and while the P-08 shoots in semi-auto only the C96 can select fire in semi and full-auto modes.

According to the KWC product brochure, both of these new classic CO2 blowback pistols will be offered in 4.5mm Steel BB and 6mm Plastics Airsoft versions. As of right now we do not have any in stock as we are planning an order based on these two samples. We like what we see and will be bringing them in to our Canada and possible US online store so stay posted as once we have verification of an order on rout, we will be offering a pre-sale option so you can reserve yours.

Umarex C96 Mauser Legends CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Table Top Review

Type: BB blowback air pistol.

Manufacturer: Umarex.

Model:Mauser C96 (M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer).

Materials: Plastic and metal.

Weight: 2 pounds.

Barrel: 5.5 inches, metal non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x 1.

Action: Semi auto, single action only.

Ammunition Type: 4.5mm steel BB's.

Ammunition Capacity: 19 round full size drop out metal magazine.

FPS: 380.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex C96 Mauser Legends CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is nice and short with a medium weight trigger pull (around 5-6 pounds) allowing for very quick consecutive shots. Unlike the new Umarex Makarov Ultra and Beretta Mod. 84 FS, the BB magazine chambering is done by the blowback action rather than the first part of the trigger pull which gives the Mauser C96 the best trigger by far out of all three guns.

Accuracy: I tested the Umarex C96 Mauser Legends from 30 feet back shooting at a paper target using a semi rested position (sand bag up front and standing in the back). My 10 shot grouping was just slightly below the center bulls eye and a bit to the right, all 10 BB's stayed within 1.25 inches with most of them grouping closer to a 1 inch group. The Umarex C96 Mauser Legends also got a surprising 390 fps on this not very warm day which was 10 fps over the claimed Umarex Feet per second rating, I can see this CO2 BB pistol hitting over 400 fps on a warm summer day for sure!

Build Quality: Lets get the fact that most of the outside of this CO2 BB pistol is plastic coated, I'm not sure why Umarex went this rout but it isa what it is and I do have to say the plastic looks great, not too glossy and not to flat, the quality seems very good and even though there is a lot of plastic on the outside there is plenty of metal used in the rest of this Replica Legends Umarex Pistol giving it a solid 2 pounds of mass in your hand. You will find it has a metal bolt, trigger, hammer, safety, rear sight, inner barrel and pretty much all of the full size drop out metal magazine which by the way holds the CO2 and the BB's. Fit and finish seems very good.

Realism: The Umarex C96 Mauser Legends CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is not licensed but it still makes for  a fantastic replica of a real steel Mauser C96 Broom-handle or should I say a M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer which is the version that Umarex based their C96 on. I love all the working parts, the quick snappy blowback, short fast trigger, working safety, hammer and bolt, all combining to make this pistol a very believable Mauser replica pistol.

Available in the:Canada Replica Airguns Store & US Replica Airguns Store.

Pros:

  • Good price for what you get, right now $110 in our Canada Store.

  • Really good accuracy, power and CO2 usage combo.

  • Very nice replica of the original Mauser C96 (M1932 / M712)

  • Decent weight and feel to it even though there is a lot of plastic on the outside.

  • Fit and finish is very good.

  • Snappy blowback action.

  • Realistic working safety.

  • Full size dropout mostly metal magazine that holds the BB's and CO2.

  • Adjustable rear sight for elevation.

  • Really great trigger on it.

  • Super fun to shoot!

Cons:

  • Lots of plastic on the outside.

  • Slide does not lock back after last shot.

  • Rear sight is not adjustable for windage, just elevation.

Comments:

It's funny how earlier on Umarex came out with the Legends Luger P08 and even though it was pretty much an all metal air pistol, there where very few actual working parts on it, no blowback or even a bolt that functioned. Of course people complained about that, so what did Umarex do this time around... They switched things up completely and made a pretty much all external plastic air pistol but with tons of working parts and full functioning blowback action. So of course Umarex has opened themselves up to more criticism for having too much plastic in the Mauser C96 ;) Even so, this pistol is one to consider picking up, ti really is a very well made CO2 BB pistol regardless of the plastic parts. It's a great replica with awesome blowback action and a super fast trigger, The fps for a blowback gun is on the high side, it shoots dead on and you even get 80+ shots per CO2 all in one of the most unique looking pistols ever made.

Umarex C96 Mauser CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol Field Test Review

Today I bring to you my shooting field test for my second new Umarex Blowback 4.5mm CO2 BB Pistol and this one is part of the Legends Series, it's called the "Pistol C96" and is a variant of the Mauser C96, all though more so like the M1932 or M712 Schnellfeuer. The Umarex version is not licensed but none the less is a very good replica with lots of working parts including the blowback metal bolt, metal hammer, metal safety and adjustable metal rear sight. The single action only trigger is also metal along with the internal barrel and full size drop out metal magazine giving this otherwise all external plastic gun good overall weight of around 2 pounds.

Getting to the performance aspect of the Umarex C96 Mauser CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol, I can say it is even more fun to shoot than admire it's beauty! I first put 5 rounds through my Chronograph hoping to get somewhere near the 380 fps claimed rating and actually exceeded it with an average of 390 fps even on this slightly cool day.

Lately I have been stepping back to my 30 foot mark even for pistol field tests and so I tested the Legends Mauser C96 with 10 rounds at 30 feet out using a semi rested position and got a very respectable 1.25 inch shot group. I did have to adjust the rear sight up a few notches to get it a centered on the target but it is very easy to do on the fly with this Replica Blowback BB pistol.

I am very impressed with the single action only trigger on the Umarex C96, it is nice and short and not too heavy with a predictable release, combine that with a very snappy fast blowback and you have yourself a very quick shooter on your hands! You can expect to get somewhere around 100 shots per CO2 and this gun is very backyard friendly as it is one of the quieter CO2 BB guns I have tested.

Yes there is a a lot of plastic on the outside but everything else is awesome about this pistol so don't let a few molecules turn you off of this little treasure...

New Umarex CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistols - Beretta Mod. 84 FS - Makarov Ultra - C96 Mauser

I finally got some brand new Umarex pistols to share with you in this Vimeo video, all three of these CO2 4.5mm Steel BB pistols have blowback and use full size drop out magazines. They also all share single action only operation.

The Umarex Makarov Ultra (Legends Series) is an all metal pistol with very heavy blowback and a long but fairly smooth and medium pull single action trigger. Everything works just like the real steel version including the slide catch/release and safety. It is also fully field strip-able.

The Beretta 84 FS (Cheetah) also has a decent blowback feel but the trigger was a bit heavier on this model, perhaps the trigger will break in a bit over time? Still a really great full metal and fully licensed CO2 Blowback BB shooter with awesome weight to it. The Beretta 84 FS is fully field strip-able and has a working slide catch/release and safety.

Lastly I show you the Umarex Mauser C96 Boomhandle (Legends Series), although much of the external materials are plastic, there is lots of metal throughout like the barrel, bolt, rear sight, hammer, safety, trigger and most of the drop out magazine, giving this pistol a good overall weight to it. The blowback is super fast and crisp with a nice short and light single action trigger making rapid fire very quick.

Shot Show Vegas 2014 Umarex Booth

Umarex had a lot of new products this year so I thought I would start off showing you some of them. I will be following this post up with a full 2014 Vegas SHOT Show video once I finish posting some of my photos and comments on the show events.

Here is a photo of the main Umarex Booth.

I have always liked the 4.5mm BB version of the Umarex Makarov, Umarex now has the Makarov Ultra version that features blowback, a working slide catch and full size drop out magazine, looking forward to testing this one out!

Another kind of new addition to the 4.5mm Steel BB lineup is the Umarex Beretta Model 84FS. It has been available overseas but is now coming to North America. The Umarex Beretta Model 84FS also features blowback and a full size drop out magazine.

I'm not sure if we needed another rebranded version of the KWC 1911 Blowback BB pistol, but we got one anyways! Umarex now has their own version of what looks to similar to the KWC Tac A1 but with Colt licensing.

Umarex also made up a very limited edition and very weathered looking blowback BB shooting 1911 based on the KWC design called the Colt 1911 WWII Commemorative. I am not sure how many where made but I know there are not a lot of them... Hope I can get my hands on one...

Umarex came out with Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8 last year and this year they have added a similar styled 4.5mm Steel BB shooting revolver with removable shells but in a licensed Colt Python 357 version.

Last but not least and going back many years, Umarex is bringing out another Legends Series 4.5mm BB pistol. The German Mauser C96, I'm not 100% sure if it's blowback or not but it does seem to have a working action, the main pistol is made out of Polymer but it does have a full size drop out magazine and seems to have good weight overall. Most of the parts work like the original Mauser C96 including the adjustable rear sight and safeties.
